Old age isn’t something that people should be afraid of; it isn’t something people should run away from. Old age comes because it is the natural way of life; no one has the power to stop it. Nature designed old age to be so because it has many wonderful benefits; and it is these advantages of being old that made it more bearable.
One advantage is the wisdom and wistfulness that come with old age. Other benefits of old age include having a strand of hair in grey here and there, being able to play with your grandchildren, having to do nothing the whole day through, not being required to dress in a particular manner, and knowing that you’ve lived a full and eventful life.
It is because of these fantastic reasons that people have come to accept old age as a natural process of life. Yet this acceptance does not come with an open declaration. This is so because old age brings with it all sorts of aches and disabilities. There are the various illnesses that old people struggle with on a daily basis. There are those that involve man’s five sensory organs such as hearing loss, not being able to see clearly in the case of cataracts of the eyes, and not being able to talk properly due to a previous stroke. Assistive Technology Helping People with Cerebral Palsy
A variety of neurological disorders may be categorized under the umbrella of cerebral palsy which is characterized by affected body movement and impairment in muscle coordination which usually occurs during infancy or early puberty. A majority of infants born with the condition are not immediately diagnosed with the condition, although these conditions are generally caused by abnormalities in areas of the brain responsible for controlling muscle movements. Major symptoms of cerebral palsy usually manifest when a child reaches between the ages of two and three. Common symptoms include stiff muscles, exaggerated reflexes or spasticity, ataxia or lack of muscle coordination, especially when executing voluntary movements, unusual postures, and atypical muscle tone.
As of today, cerebral palsy remains incurable, although the main purpose of treatment programs for children with this condition is to help them cope with their disabilities. This in turn will allow them to give their lives a semblance of normalcy and allow them to live as normal as possible even with their condition. Treatment programs for CP is made up of speech therapy, physical and occupational therapy, and medications for controlling seizures, relaxing muscle spasms, and to reduce pain. Sometimes, a surgical procedure will also be performed in order to rectify anatomical abnormalities that come with the condition or in order to release tightened muscles. Read the rest of this entry »
